Prowalk Tours Videographer walked up and down Mt. Vesuvius on 8/24/2017 starting at 10 a.m. The hike is straight up at 30-degree angle (approx), first to the southwest, then around more to the south. It was a hot August day with many people hiking the still active volcano (part of the Campanian volcanic arc) that covered Pompeii after the explosion in 79 A.D. Looking into the crater was mind-expanding. There were several eating and souvenir shops toward the top. The view of the Gulf of Naples was pretty but a little hazy. You can also just make out the islands of Sorrento, Capri and Ischia. The Naples metro area was visible to the northwest, but the Pompeii site was only seen briefly at the end.
This is a good video to increase the treadmill elevation to try to match the steep incline and give your legs an extra workout.
